The Wuneechanunk Shinnecock Preschool provides young children with the opportunities to achieve their full, unique potential through comprehensive, culturally sensitive, early childhood care and education, planned and implemented in partnership with families and the community.
The Wuneechanunk Shinnecock Preschool opened its doors on May 26, 2015. Opening with just one classroom for toddlers between the ages of 2 and 3 years old, WSP quickly expanded under Tribal licensing and Federal CCDF grant funding to service infants between the ages of 6 weeks and 18 months, toddlers 18 months to 36 months, and preschool aged children between 3 and 4 years old. We encourage our infants, toddlers and preschool children to learn through natural play experiences, cultural enrichment, and guidance through positive interactions that are inclusive to the needs of each individual child.
“ Our preschool encourages critical thinking through purposeful play, exposure to native culture, language and traditions while fostering an innovative spirit”
The goal we want to set for your child is to help them exceed the appropriate skills levels for their age. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of age-appropriate activities. These will promote physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. We will be focusing on activities to develop motor skills, age-appropriate math, science, and literacy. We will be teaching Shinnecock language and basic language skills through games and repetition. We encourage parents and family members to engage with their children in the home to reinforce their lessons.
